Lovingly shaped in the form of a heart, the Red Heart collection box plays a big part in fundraising received from the public in support of the Heart Foundation. Proceeds generated from the Red Hearts go towards the Heart Foundation’s Children’s Programme.

Red Hearts are placed in shops, schools, churches, corporate and manufacturing businesses.
It provides individuals who wish to donate funds to the Heart Foundation with the opportunity to do so in an easy and accessible manner.

Red Heart Representatives

The Heart Foundation has dedicated men and women who distribute and collect Red Hearts on a daily basis from donors. Red Heart representatives are individuals who believe in the work of the Heart Foundation and are therefore dedicated and passionate about the role they play. These individuals are carefully screened before being appointed and they each carry an identification badge at all times with the following information:

• Full name
• Photograph for easy identification
• Heart Foundation Fundraising Number

Each representative also has a letter of introduction that contains these details to provide donors with further reassurance that the Red Heart funds are given to the correct person.
We encourage donors to only give Red Hearts to our representatives if they display their identification badge.

Should a donor at any time want verification or believe that Red Hearts are being distributed or collected by fraudulent individuals, please contact the Heart Foundation immediately.

Structure of Programme

Each Red Heart representative is assigned to a specific area for the distribution and collection of the boxes. The average cycle from distribution to the collection of a filled Red Heart is 6-8 weeks and the Red Heart representative is responsible to service their area within this time frame.

Should the box be filled before the end of the cycle, donors are encouraged to contact the Heart Foundation. This will enable the representative responsible for the area to collect the box at the donor's convenience.

The contact details appear on the back of the Red Heart collection box. The representative will provide a replacement should the donor wish to continue supporting the Red Heart Fundraising Programme. Once the Red Heart has been collected, it is taken to the Heart Foundation office for counting and capturing of the donor information.

The Heart Foundation has also launched a Red Heart Programme aimed at corporate level in an effort to increase corporate awareness and support of the Red Heart Fundraising Programme. This will include encouraging senior company executives to get involved by keeping a Red Heart on their desk.
