CAPE MEDICAL REHABILITATION
Life Claremont Hospital does not have a cardiac unit, but Cape Medical Rehabilitation is situated on the ground floor of the hospital. The centre specialises in cardiac rehabilitation and range from the at risk, hypertensive patient through to those who have undergone bypass surgery and even heart transplant surgery. The centre is fully equipped with the latest in gymnasium equipment, which has been imported from the USA.
The centre is run by a nursing sister, a team of five biokineticists and a dietician. We also make use of a team of three health psychologists, as the approach to cardiac rehabilitation is a holistic one. The total programme is overseen by two specialist physicians who both have an interest in cardiac disease and cardiac rehabilitation. The centre has been operating for eighteen months and during that period we have seen some amazing improvements amongst our patients. The patients do a six month program with us and the aim is then to integrate them into one of the commercial gyms or onto a Fit-for-Life program.
Our aim is to bring the unfit and at risk patients back to peak fitness so as to minimize the likelihood of a cardiac incidence or relapse.
